Fashion Fight Club
In reaction to the Rana Plaza Collapse of 2013. Colleague Alexa Seiler and I created Fashion Fight Club as a performative culture disruptor. Through performance, publication, and instruction, we aim to invoke action against all fast fashion crimes and inspire more meaningful modes of consumption, fulfillment and creation. We host “fights” with a variety of interest groups, and special events such as for Fashion Revolution Day.
Experimental in its roots, FFC began as a “game’ of sorts, orchestrating parallels between the participatory group performance, and inhuman textile factory conditions and mob-like fast fashion consumerism. Acting as “referees” Alexa and I take participants through a round of cutting unwanted scraps and clothing, a round of deconstructing the scraps, and finally a round of reconstruction and instruction on sustainable fashion and independent style & creation.
